On Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 1:26 p.m., the 4th District Court of Appeal issued a temporary stay pending further briefing on our request. This court issued stay is temporary and it only halts the expiration of our charter and facility retraction proceedings pending a more complete briefing and consideration of the merits of our stay request.
Once fully briefed, the Court will make a decision on whether to stay the expiration of our charter and facility retraction for the entirety of our appeal process. Without the Court’s action today, Oxford Preparatory Academy Chino Valley’s charter was set to expire tomorrow, Friday, June 30th. We are grateful to the Court for issuing a temporary stay today to allow further briefing on our request.
While this is a very positive first step, we must caution everyone that there is no guarantee of the outcome at this early stage. The road to appeal continues for Oxford Prep Chino Valley and we depend on each and every one of our stakeholders to stay positive and collaborative with Chino Valley Unified School District, who, at this time, continues to be our authorizing agency.
While we continue to welcome open dialogue and student-centered collaboration with CVUSD, we are also thankful for the avenues provided by the appellate process. Along with our students and parents, we remain hopeful that this temporary stay, which is an extraordinary remedy rarely provided by a Court of Appeal, is a positive step in in the right direction.
