Executive Director Weekly Update 10/19/2018

Dear OPA Families:

Over the first two months of school, I have been working hard to listen to families and staff about what they like and appreciate about OPA as well as what people would like to see improved. A common theme that resonates is to continue improving on our communication with and between families, staff and external stakeholders. I believe, as you likely do as well, that communication is the key to team and community building and I continue to make a special effort in that area. For example, I plan on attending upcoming Town Hall discussions and Advisory Board/School Site Council meetings, and meeting with Honour Society officers. I do my best to respond promptly to email, knowing that I play an important role in ensuring our OPA community has answers to questions that might otherwise lead to misinformation and rumor.

In addition, I am asking Chancellors to help our OPA community to develop a process that ensures a regular and accurate flow of information. Monthly Town Halls will be rotated with monthly school council meetings and school council meetings will occur prior to regular meetings of the OPA Board of Directors. It is my hope that by increasing these opportunities for open dialogue we can continue to build the kind of community that values and respects one another and improves access to important information.

As always, everyone is encouraged to attend or watch our OPA Board Meetings. The next meeting will be Thursday October 25th at SOC. The agenda for that meeting will be posted 72 hours prior to the meeting.

OPA SOC – CUSD MOU Update
OPA remains on track to complete the items required of us in our MOU with the Capistrano Unified School DIstrict (CUSD). OPA has submitted all items to CUSD that were due for the August-October 2018 timeframe. We have established an ongoing dialogue with CUSD staff so that any questions or concerns are immediately surfaced and addressed. I greatly appreciate their support for OPA SOC in this process. Their clarifying questions and comments on MOU items and communications assist us to move forward with stability and sustainability.

I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Jill Marks
