OPA Update for 12-7-18

2018 Release of the California School Dashboard

This week, the 2018 California School Dashboard opened for public viewing. The site features easy-to-read reports on multiple measures of school success, including test scores, graduation rates, English learner progress and suspension rates. The Dashboard is part of California’s school accountability system. It is part of California’s educational shifts that have raised the bar for student learning, transformed testing and placed the focus on equity for all students.

The California School Dashboard provides parents and educators with meaningful information on school and district progress so they can participate in decisions to improve student learning. Click here to view a short video about the California School Dashboard.

The Dashboard illustrates performance on state indicators, including chronic absenteeism, graduation rate, suspension rate, and academic (which includes performance in English language arts/literacy and mathematics). Future state measures will include performance on the California Science Test. Local measures are reported by school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools based on data available only at the local level. These measures include clean and safe buildings, school climate, parent engagement, and access to a broad course of study. This information is not available for individual schools or student groups.

For most performance measures, the Dashboard compares school, district, and state results based on current performance and progress or improvement from the previous year. Schools receive one of five color-coded performance levels on the state indicators. From highest to lowest, the five performance levels are: Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red. Performance levels are calculated based on how current performance (Status) compares to past performance (Change). This provides a more complete picture of performance than a point-in-time snapshot.

Below are the 2018 indicators for both Saddleback Valley and South Orange County. More information regarding the Dashboard and our state and local indicators will be presented at an upcoming Board of Directors meeting.
