Executive Director Weekly Update 4/15/2019

Dear OPA Families,

Can you believe there are just two months left in the 2018-2019 OPA school year?! This has been a
watershed year for OPA. We have worked hard to establish transparency, stability and partnership
with our OPA authorizers and most importantly, with you.

No doubt you are hearing about proposed State legislation that aims to restrict growth and approval
of charter schools. Measures are needed to increase charter school transparency and accountability.
At OPA, we are watching the legislation closely, writing letters to legislators concerning overly
restrictive bills and are planning strategically to stay ahead of policy changes.

Our next Regular Meeting of the OPA Board of Directors has been rescheduled for April 23, 2019 at
SOC. I highly encourage you attend in person or watch online. Staffing updates, including approving
the finalist for SOC Chancellor, will be on the agenda.

Approval of the OPA SOC charter petition for renewal will be considered during the Capistrano
Unified Board of Directors Meeting on May 22, 2019. We are optimistic about approval, given their
Board of Directors voted unanimously to accept the Memorandum of Understanding to clear our pathway
towards charter renewal. Upon approval of the renewal, charter authorizers typically develop an
agreement with charter schools to address relatively minor issues that surface during review and
approval. If this is the case, we will resolve them.

OPA teachers, staff and administrators plan to be at OPA for a long time and I hope you do too!
